6.1. Introduction#

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the engineering profession by helping engineers analyze data, automate repetitive tasks, generate ideas, and solve complex problems more efficiently. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into engineering practice, it is important for future engineers to understand both its capabilities and its limitations. This module introduces the fundamental concepts of AI, including common terminology, how AI differs from traditional programming, and the many ways AI is used across engineering disciplines. Students will also learn about the ethical and responsible use of AI, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking, verifying AI-generated information, and applying engineering judgment when using AI tools.
