West Lafayette#

There are many activities you should be doing for your own professional development as an engineering or an IBE student beyond our traditional courses. In ENGR 13300, we are including three types of experiences in the course assignments. The three types of experiences are mentioned in Table 5

Table 5 Professional Preparation Experiences#

Experiences

Description

Activities

Career Exploration

A set of seminars called Engineering Your Major (EYM) that are designed to expose you to different engineering majors and career options

\(3\)

Personal Activity

Beyond the EYM’s, each of you should be doing other activities that include attending club meetings and callouts, going to industry job fairs and going to hear speakers on campus. These can help you decide on a major and future career as well as helping you learn about opportunities for your future.

\(1\)

Cultural Experience

The Purdue community is very diverse. Experiencing that diversity will help you to grow as people and prepare yourselves to be leaders in our global economy and community.

\(1\)

We have allocated \(100\) points in the course for you to attend and reflect on \(5\) of these experiences during the fall semester, \(3\) EYM’s, \(1\) Personal Activity and \(1\) Cultural Experience. You have the choice of what order they are done. For each, you will submit a reflection that is graded with the rubric, see the Reflections topic. For the EYM’s, attendance is taken, and you will need to register in advance. The Personal Activity and Cultural Activity will not have attendance recorded; you only need to write a reflection.

You have the freedom to do the activities in any order, but you must complete one by the first due date shown below, two more by the second date, and the final two by the final due date.

The schedule for the assignment due dates is mentioned in Table 6.

Points Distribution#

Each reflection is worth \(17\) points for a total of \(85\) points. Attendance at each EYM is worth \(5\) points for a total of \(15\) points. Thus, \(85\) + \(15\) = \(100\) points. See Table 7 for the individual breakdown.
